 Dear Math Kangaroo Volunteer,

On behalf of Math Kangaroo Organization, thank you for volunteering on Math Kangaroo Day. We are glad to be able to count on you this year again.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Please allow me to point a few organizational details:

The site leader will go over with you with the specifics as s/he is ultimately managing the site.  Please, be available to tasks designated for you as they may be little different at each location.

Here are some general expectations and sample tasks:

* Help with sitting the children, making sure participants of the same level are not sitting next to each other;

* Direct parents to the designated waiting area, they will have many questions.  Basic information you may need - please see at the end of this letter.  Encourage them, especially parents of younger children, NOT to leave the site.  Some students are done very quickly.

* At the check in time - verification of the registration information such as name, grade level, email address (especially important since this is the main mode of communication with Math Kangaroo)

* Help with passing out the gifts: T-shirt, souvenirs, pencils, and certificates of participation.

* If there is no one else designated at the site, make sure there are pictures taken throughout the event.  Ideally there would be a group picture taken.  As it might be difficult with a large group of participants, the best time is to set the children for a group photograph is before the test begins.  As they have up to 75 minutes to work on the problems, many complete solving the test much earlier and leave at that time.

Information you may be asked by parents:

·         75 MINUTES MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST

·         24 Questions for students in grades 1, 2, 3 and 4

·         30 Questions for students in grades 5 and up

·         Students will bring homes their competition booklets except where the event starts before 4:00 P.M. local time. At those locations all booklets and scratch paper need to be collected and returned to the participants during the following days.

·         Answer key will be available in May, check the web site www.mathkangaroo.org for latest information, including top winners.

·         There will be awards for the top winners in May.

·          Registered students who do not attend the competition will claim their packages - except the certificate - from the center Manger later in March and April.

·         Top winners will be invited to the awards ceremony in May via email address provided at the time of the registration.

LEVELS CORRESPOND WITH SCHOOL GRADES:

·         1st Grad--Level 1

·         2nd Grade--Level 2

·         3rd Grade--Level 3  and so on

Thank you again for your time and energy in helping students love math!
