Math Kangaroo in USA
2011 Lessons Learned.
Math Kangaroo Managers need to verify the participants level of participation with the students' School Report Cards. Enrolled students are requested to have their recent report card with them at the competition. This is needed to assure that students do not participate at levels lower than their school level.
Student Id numbers need to be coded (bubbled in) for kids in grades 1 through 3 by Managers in advance or verified right after the test time.
Answer cards not delivered to the competition headquarters within five days after the competition will not be scored for results. This is to support our efforts to arrange for awards ceremonies in the first half of May anywhere in USA.
2010 Lessons Learned.
1. Packages with the competition material in March and with the awards in May need to be claimed from the post office and inspected on the day of their arrival—not on the day of the event.
2. At the competition time it is a good idea to send all the participants to the restrooms right before the question booklets are distributed.
3. Students need to be reminded about copying their ID number from their answer cards to their question booklets covers.
4. Managers’ assistance is needed with coding the ID numbers on the answer cards. If possible and help is available, performing the task before the test day would eliminate many mistakes in the ID numbers coded on the answer cards. If this cannot be done in advance, verification of the coded numbers is needed before the cards are sent out back to the Math Kangaroo Results Center.
5. If there is a problem with downloading the participants list from Mangers Page, Math Kangaroo Central Office needs to be contacted in February and the list will be e-mailed as an excel sheet.
6. Scratch paper needs to be prepared in advance—the cost is refunded upon request.
7. Spare pencils need to be added to the packages sent to the centers.
8. Parents are eager to help with the event and will wait for their children who finish earlier - if you ask them in advance.
9. Feedback from managers and from parents is welcome at the Math Kangaroo Central Office: info@mathkangaroo.org.
10. The Centers page contains resources needed to run the Math Kangaroo program successfully. If anything is missing, an e-mail needs to be sent to info@mathkangaroo.org.
